Alcoholics; Lets Lock Them Up - Seriously

Admittedly, talking about locking up alcoholics makes me sound a touch whack-job (I do realize this) but is it really so crazy?

I mean we lock people up for the possession of a small amount of certain drugs, and offer them no real treatment – yet we let alcoholics drink themselves to death and cause all sorts of familial and societal problems, as long as they don't break "the law".
 
Would forcing on them the treatment that they need and trying to save their lives be so wrong?

Actually, the most addictive drug, as determined by a survey of addiction experts, was a legal one - in fact the only drug to get a score of 100 was nicotine. Check out the list and the addiction scores of commonly abused drugs.
