Lets Stop Throwing Sick People into Jail, and Being Surprised When They Don’t Get Better!

Treatment works, incarceration alone clearly doesn't, and although the knee jerk reaction in this country is still too often a crime and punishment based approach to drug offenses, an innovative program in Delaware is gaining impressive results using a more therapeutic approach.

Alcoholics; Lets Lock Them Up - Seriously

Admittedly, talking about locking up alcoholics makes me sound a touch whack-job (I do realize this) but is it really so crazy?

I mean we lock people up for the possession of a small amount of certain drugs, and offer them no real treatment – yet we let alcoholics drink themselves to death and cause all sorts of familial and societal problems, as long as they don't break "the law".
 
Would forcing on them the treatment that they need and trying to save their lives be so wrong?
